Over the centuries, the estate passed through a number of notable landowning families and became an important part of the island’s agricultural and rural heritage. The historic Rowborough Barn, parts of which date from the early eighteenth century, remains a testament to the estate’s long and evolving story.
Today, The Harrison Family are proud custodians of the Rowborough Estate, continuing its legacy while embracing a vision for the future. Under their ownership, the estate is committed to responsible land management and the preservation of its historic character. The family is dedicated to ensuring that Rowborough remains a thriving working estate that balances conservation and sustainable development.
Spanning approximately 1,500 acres, the estate encompasses a diverse landscape of farmland, woodland, sporting interests, residential properties.
Today, the farm operates as a mixed enterprise of sheep, beef, and arable crops. A balanced rotation, typically five years of grass followed by five years of arable, supports soil health, productivity and long-term sustainability across the farm.
Since returning home, Ralph has helped guide the business towards a more regenerative approach. This includes introducing new sheep breeds better suited to the system, grazing wheat crops, and adopting direct drilling methods. These changes reflect a commitment to working with the land and ensuring its future for generations to come.
